Question: What is the difference between a Matrix and an Analog Touch Switch?
- A Matrix Touch switch has a grid of mechanical contacts arrayed on a layer of glass. When the screen is pressed, the closest mechanical contact is actived, resulting in a "press". The touch area is limited by the number of mechanical contacts and the size of the grid. It has the capability of allowing more than one "press" at a time.
- An Analog Resistive Touch screen consists of a transparent flexible membrane and a transparent static layer. When the screen is touched, the layers make contact, resulting in an analog value. This value is used to compute the location of the touch. There is no limit to the size of the touch area when designing objects for graphic use. If the screen is pressed in more than one location at a time the analog value is the average, or midpoint, of the locations.
