    Fuji Electric Launches New Explosion Proof Blower

    Edison, NJ – Fuji Electric launches our new model, the EXV1000-7W 10 HP explosion proof blower. The model is a Direct Drive single stage blower with a motor defined as Explosion proof:  T4(T3C): Class 1, Div.1, Group C, D, with UL certificate, and equipped with a motor suitable for Explosion proof requirements. It provides the same high quality, reliability and durability as Fuji Electric’s standard products, is similar in design to our standard 10 HP blower.

    This model includes a 10 HP explosion Proof motor. Maximum pressure is 191 in H2O with Continuous duty at 95 in H2O.  Maximum Airflow is 406 SCFM.   • Contributing to Safe and Passenger Services Fuji Electric Door Operating System Adopted in Toyota’s e-Palette

    Fuji Electric Co., Ltd.     1. Outline

    Fuji Electric is strengthening its power electronics systems business, and one of its key business areas is the railway business. The main products of this business are “propulsion systems,” “auxiliary power supply,” and “door operating systems,” which are installed in railcars, as well as substation equipment, which provides a stable power for railway infrastructure.

    There are two types of door operating systems: pneumatic systems, which  use air pressure to open/close doors, and electric systems, which use motor power. Fuji Electric has been offering electric door operating systems. The share of electric door operating systems in Japan is about 50% (according to research by Fuji Electric). Fuji has delivered approximately 75,000 door operating systems (for approximately 10,000 vehicles) to date, mainly to railroads in urban areas in Japan, the United States, and Southeast Asia. Stable operation of these door systems has been supporting daily life and commuting of approximately 3 billion people every year.

    Toyota has highly appreciated Fuji door operating system for its reliability and safety in the railway environment as well as its design for downsizing and modularity, then decided to adopt the system in its “e-Palette.”

    Now that this system has been adopted in the “e-Palette,” Fuji Electric will continue to propose door operating systems for a wide range of applications in the transportation field, including railways and electric vehicles, whose market is expected to expand in the future.

    2. Fuji Electric Door Operating System, Designed for Safety

    At present, most of the door operating systems used in railway vehicles in Japan are pneumatic. However, many of these are being replaced by electric door operating systems, as the latter provide flexible and more precise opening/closing control and easier maintenance because they have fewer parts than pneumatic systems. This trend is similar around the world, and the need for electric door operating systems is increasing every year.

    Electric door operating systems are equipped with servo technologies like that used in robotics and machine tools to control the speed and position of machining. Fuji Electric develops and owns such servo technologies, and has strengths in know-hows that can optimally control the door opening/closing. Fuji’s door operating system takes advantage of these strengths. If something is likely to get caught in a door—for example, a person’s finger, an umbrella, and wheels of a stroller or a wheelchair the system can react immediately to open the door, thereby minimizing the impact in case the object does get caught.

  • Fuji Electric Announces Launch of Ultra Sonic Flow Meter for Steam

    Edison, N.J– Fuji Electric Corp. of America is pleased to announce the launch of our new UltraSonic Flow Meter for Steam now available for shipment.   The FSJ/FSX series demonstrates  Fuji Electric’s EMS (Energy Management Solution) by “Visualization”, “Recognition” and “Optimization”.

    Fuji Electric designed the FSJ/FSX series ultrasonic flow meters for steam with effective energy measurement without pressure loss. It installs easily without the need of stopping the process or cutting pipe, measures very low flow rates down to zero, utilizes noise eliminating frame to ensure accurate measurements without interference and offers less maintenance costs due to no moving parts.

    “The new UltraSonic Flow Meter for Steam was developed with high-sensitivity and new noise reduction technologies to allow us to measure saturated steam flow rate at very low pressures from 14.5 psig and high-temperatures up to 356 degrees fahrenheit. Mass Flow rates can also be calculated by known density or from outside pressure and temperature input , ” states Jeff Rainey, Instrumentation and Control Sales Manager.

  • Expanding the Lineup of the 7th-Generation X Series IGBT Modules

    1. Aim

    IGBT modules are mounted on industrial equipment such as inverters for driving motors, uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), and power conditioning systems (PCS) for wind or photovoltaic power generation facilities, and are key devices in achieving both energy conservation and a stable electric power supply.

    In 2015, Fuji Electric launched its 7th-generation X Series of IGBT modules with withstanding voltages of 650V and 1,200V, contributing to energy conservation and a stable electric power supply for a wide range of equipment and facilities, including inverters for controlling air conditioners and motors, UPSs, and PCS. Fuji Electric has recently expanded its lineup of 1,700V withstanding voltage products, targeting the large-scale wind power generation market.

    Amid increasing awareness of environmental issues, demand for clean energy, mainly from renewable energy sources, is growing around the world. The market for industrial-use IGBT modules is expected to grow at an annual rate of 3.5% from about 350 billion yen in 2018.*2 More and more large-scale wind power generation facilities are being constructed, particularly in Europe and China, and the global market for such facilities is expected to grow by 591 GW in 2018 and 8% annually by 2023 (source: GWEC). With this lineup expansion, Fuji Electric aims to further expand sales of its 7th-generation X Series of IGBT modules.

    1. Features of the 7th-Generation X Series

    A) Achieves energy saving by reducing power loss
    The IGBT module combines and packages an IGBT, which turns the current on and off, with a diode, which has a freewheeling function (FWD). 

    With this product, Fuji Electric has made the IGBT and FWD thinner and the surface structure of the IGBT finer. This has reduced power loss during inverter operation by approximately 10% compared to the conventional product (6th-generation V Series). It also contributes to energy saving and to reducing the power cost of installed equipment.

    B) Contributes to downsizing of equipment

    A newly developed insulating substrate has been applied to improve the heat dissipation of the module. In addition to the abovementioned reduced power loss, heat generation is suppressed, increasing the maximum guaranteed temperature for continuous operation from the conventional 150°C to 175°C, enabling an increase of up to 30%*3 in output current while maintaining the size of the installed equipment. This contributes to downsizing of equipment and reduction of total cost.

    C) Contributes to better equipment reliability

    The module structure and materials used were reviewed to improve stability and durability during operation at high temperatures. This contributes to improving the reliability of installed equipment.

  • Initiatives for SDGs to Contribute to Achieving a Sustainable Society and Environmental Vision 2050

    Edison, NJ – Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. (“FE”), headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, led by President Michihiro Kitazawa, is pleased to announce that it has formulated initiatives for SDGs*1 to contribute to achieving a sustainable society as well as a new policy called Environmental Vision 2050.

    1. Fuji Electric’s Vision

    The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement*2 have been adopted by the international community, and so, as members of society, companies are also expected to take positive action to both achieve economic growth and resolve social and environmental issues.

    It is part of FE’s Corporate Philosophy to contribute to prosperity, encourage creativity, and seek harmony with the environment, and part of its Management Policy to contribute to the creation of responsible and sustainable societies through the energy and environment businesses. FE hopes to contribute to achieving the SDGs by carrying out its Corporate Philosophy and Management Policy.

    In the aim of solving environmental issues, FE has formulated a policy called Environmental Vision 2050, which is based on legislation such as the Plan for Global Warming Countermeasures decided by the Japanese cabinet, which itself is based on the Paris Agreement. The policy consists of three goals: achieving “Low-Carbon Society”, “Recycling-Oriented Society”, and “Society that is in Harmony with Nature”.

    In line with these efforts, FE has also taken this opportunity to revise its Codes of Conduct, which serve as its employee code of conduct. These documents clearly lay out how FE will work to solve social and environmental issues across the company-wide supply chain and contribute to achieving the SDGs through its corporate activities.

    1) Initiatives for SDGs

    With the intent of having its overall corporate activities work toward achieving the SDGs, FE has organized the relationships between its corporate activities and 17 of the SDGs and determined its priority SDGs. In the future, FE will disclose the initiatives from the economic, social, and environmental aspects externally.

    FE positions environmental conservation initiatives as one of its key management issues. It formulated Environmental Vision 2020 in 2009 and has been promoting the reduction of the environmental burden with initiatives to reduce the CO2 emissions during production and through energy-saving products.

    In line with the Paris Agreement and the Plan for Global Warming Countermeasures decided by the Japanese cabinet, Environmental Vision 2050 aims to contribute to achieving “Low-Carbon Society”, “Recycling-Oriented Society”, and “Society that is in Harmony with Nature” throughout its entire supply chain. In reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, FE is not only reducing the amount of greenhouse gases emitted through its production, but also has set the goal of reducing the CO2 emissions through its products by FY2030.   • Acquisition of Leading Indian Power Electronics Manufacturer to Expand the Power Electronics Systems Business in India

    Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. (“FE”), headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, led by President Michihiro Kitazawa, is pleased to announce that, in order to expand its power electronics systems business in India, it has entered into an agreement with Peepul Capital Fund III LLC and the individual shareholders to acquire the entire shares of Consul Neowatt Power Solutions Private Limited (CNPS), a major power electronics manufacturer in the country.

    1. Background

    Fuji Electric (FE) is globally developing its core business of Power Electronics Systems and India is one of the key focus areas for FE’s global growth plan. FE established Fuji Electric India Pvt. Ltd., a sales company, in 2009, and opened a low-voltage AC Drives factory in 2016. That same year, FE also established an engineering company (Fuji Gemco Private Limited) as a joint venture with a local company. Since then, FE has been developing the industry solutions business mainly to improve the productivity and to save energy for our clients in India.

    CNPS is a leading manufacturer of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems in India. CNPS is the leading Indian UPS Company and among the fastest growing power electronics company in India. CNPS has a strong customer base in India with a proven track record of supplying reliable power electronic solutions to customers across Industry verticals in manufacturing, healthcare, social infrastructure, and other segments requiring power quality solutions.

    FE will expand its power electronics systems business in India, targeting mainly the manufacturing industry and the data center market, which has been booming in recent years, by leveraging CNPS’s network of sales and service centers across the country. FE will also leverage the manufacturing infrastructure and product development capabilities of CNPS for the development of price-competitive products specifically designed for demanding site and power conditions.

    2. Key Measures

    A) Launch of energy solutions business

    While India is experiencing ongoing economic growth and expanding infrastructure construction, improvements in power quality is required for uninterrupted business operations. FE energy solution business will focus on improving the power quality and optimization of energy usage, by combining CNPS’s UPS solutions with FE’s energy management systems (EMSs). FE will propose such solutions for data centers, social infrastructure, buildings and factories, which essentially require a stable and energy efficient power supply.

    B) Strengthening the manufacturing system for local production for local consumption

    Fuji Electric India and Fuji Gemco have factories in Mumbai (western India) and Faridabad (northern India), respectively. The acquisition of CNPS’s factories (Pune in the western region and Chennai in the south) gives FE a large manufacturing presence in India.

    FE will now be able to respond faster to customer needs in India with a more efficient production and distribution network by establishing the entire process of production and supply in India—from product development to material procurement, manufacturing, and quality assurance—of AC Drives, UPSs and other components.
