Edison, N.J. – Fuji Electric Corp. of America (FEA) has announced their role in the Green Electron Power Project in St. Clair Township of Ontario, Canada, which was recently completed. The manufacturer’s 125MW steam turbine generator was installed in this 300MW combined cycle power plant, which is one of 30 natural gas generating stations in the province. The plant is aimed at improving air quality for its citizens while providing reliable power to the provincial grid. A Fuji Electric KN model turbine, which is a two-cylinder, reheat condensing unit, was selected and installed with a TEWAC generator.
“Fuji Electric is proud to have contributed to the successful completion of Green Electron Power Project” said Mitchell Lardner, General Manager of Fuji Electric Corp. of America’s Power Generation Dept. “The positive impact this plant will have on the community aligns with Fuji Electric’s corporate philosophy of contributing to sustainable societies and the environment around us.”
Greenfield South Power Corporation has a 20-year Clean Energy Supply Agreement with the Independent Electrical System Operator of Ontario and the project is included in the province’s clean energy, “off coal” plan. As a part of the “off coal” plan, the plant will contribute to improving air quality in Ontario. Major equipment includes one combustion turbine generator, one heat recovery steam generator, and one steam turbine generator. Plant cooling will be by wet mechanical draft cooling tower and natural gas will be the sole fuel source for the facility. The project is part of Ontario’s plan to replace all of its coal-fired electricity generation with new, clean natural gas-fueled generation. The overall thermal efficiency of the plant will be significantly higher than coal fired facilities or simple cycle combustion turbine generator facilities. Mr. Gregory Vogt, President of Greenfield South, stated “The Fuji KN Triple Pressure Steam Turbine is a very nice package that we would be happy to recommend to other projects in North America.”
“With natural gas making up about 25% of the installed electrical generation capacity in Ontario, this project supports the province’s long-term goals,” added Mr. Lardner. “Fuji Electric is known worldwide for providing our customers with the solutions they need to achieve their objectives, and it is these strong partnerships that have contributed to our success over the past 94 years.”
