  • Fuji Electric Supplies Steam Turbine Generator for Green Electron Power Project

Fuji Electric’s Steam Turbine Generator Green Electron Project St. Clair Township, Ontario (Oil Springs Line near Greenfield Rd)

Edison, N.J.  –  Fuji Electric Corp. of America (FEA) has announced their role in the Green Electron Power Project in St. Clair Township of Ontario, Canada, which was recently completed. The manufacturer’s 125MW steam turbine generator was installed in this 300MW combined cycle power plant, which is one of 30 natural gas generating stations in the province. The plant is aimed at improving air quality for its citizens while providing reliable power to the provincial grid. A Fuji Electric KN model turbine, which is a two-cylinder, reheat condensing unit, was selected and installed with a TEWAC generator.

“Fuji Electric is proud to have contributed to the successful completion of Green Electron Power Project” said Mitchell Lardner, General Manager of Fuji Electric Corp. of America’s Power Generation Dept.  “The positive impact this plant will have on the community aligns with Fuji Electric’s corporate philosophy of contributing to sustainable societies and the environment around us.”

Greenfield South Power Corporation has a 20-year Clean Energy Supply Agreement with the Independent Electrical System Operator of Ontario and the project is included in the province’s clean energy, “off coal” plan.  As a part of the “off coal” plan, the plant will contribute to improving air quality in Ontario. Major equipment includes one combustion turbine generator, one heat recovery steam generator, and one steam turbine generator. Plant cooling will be by wet mechanical draft cooling tower and natural gas will be the sole fuel source for the facility. The project is part of Ontario’s plan to replace all of its coal-fired electricity generation with new, clean natural gas-fueled generation. The overall thermal efficiency of the plant will be significantly higher than coal fired facilities or simple cycle combustion turbine generator facilities.  Mr. Gregory Vogt, President of Greenfield South, stated “The Fuji KN Triple Pressure Steam Turbine is a very nice package that we would be happy to recommend to other projects in North America.”

“With natural gas making up about 25% of the installed electrical generation capacity in Ontario, this project supports the province’s long-term goals,” added Mr. Lardner. “Fuji Electric is known worldwide for providing our customers with the solutions they need to achieve their objectives, and it is these strong partnerships that have contributed to our success over the past 94 years.”

  • Fuji Electric Enters Bean-to-Cup Coffee Machine Market in U.S.

Edison, N.J.  –  Fuji Electric Corp. of America has announced that they have entered the Bean-to-Cup coffee machine market in the United States with the launch of BeanBrew, a commercial-grade single-serve coffee machine that uses freshly ground beans for every cup, allowing for 24/7 access to gourmet coffee in locations such as offices, hotels, restaurants, and convenience stores. BeanBrew’s advanced grinding technology results in finely ground beans that are consistent in size for a smooth flavor.

“Although we’re new to the U.S. market, Fuji Electric has been utilizing this technology in our machines since 2013, with over 40,000 machines deployed to convenience stores in Japan and 2.4 billion cups of coffee sold to date,” said Jeff Knapp, General Manager of Fuji Electric Corp. of America’s Food & Beverage Department.  “That means that every minute there are over 1 thousand cups of coffee being dispensed by a Fuji Electric bean-to-cup coffee machine, and we’re excited for U.S. consumers to see what a difference the coffee machine itself plays in the overall experience.”

Fuji Electric’s grinding unit is powered by a high-performance motor, grinding the coffee beans to a fine and uniform consistency even at low RPMs. Conventional machines are powered by motors running at higher RPMs, and this can burn or oxidize the beans, ultimately affecting the flavor. The brewing process involves a comprehensive method of steaming and pressing the beans to extract maximum flavor and aroma. BeanBrew uses simple push buttons for easy operation, making it ideal for applications where 24/7 access to fresh coffee is required without the need for a dedicated machine operator present, such as offices, hotels, and off-peak hours at convenience stores. These UL/NSF-Certified machines feature multiple bean hoppers, a hot water dispenser, and a variety of options for easy calibration to maximize flavor.

“Fuji Electric has a proven track record of developing innovative products that outperform their competitors through the use of advanced technology,” added Mr. Knapp. “Our engineers spend years developing new products that meet our strict quality standards, and the result of these efforts is a coffee machine that will produce better coffee with a smoother, deeper, more luxurious flavor.”
